Dicken's day dress (mid 1800s) for use by Miss Bela Wilfur from
Our Mutual Friend.
Items constructed for this costume:
Bodice
Blue plaid flannel cotton bodice with silver yoke and flange that crosses
in back. Self piping on
yoke, armsceye, side seam. White pearlized buttons down front.
Peplum and sleeves and flange lined with blue polyester, two rows of
silver polyester fabric trim on bottom of peplum.
Pattern: McCalls M5132. Alterations include separating the yoke to utilize two
different fabrics and sewing the piped pieces into the seams instead of tacking
on afterwards. Sleeves and peplum differ from pattern.
Skirt
Blue flannel plaid cotton gathered skirt with
set in waistband, back/side hook and eye closure, hidden pockets on seams. Three flounces with
silver and blue polyester fabric trim.
Bonnet
Faux drawn red taffeta bonnet, silver interior, purchased embroidered tieback,
silver trim and blue and green purchased flowers.
