Butterick 6085 Misses' Shirts

[20170812] I was looking for a short sleeved Aloha/Hawaiian/camp shirt pattern. The first one I looked at was a unisex pattern which came with many sheets for customization. So, instead I tried Butterick 6085 © 2001 which looks like it is a pattern that may have been reconfigured from an earlier time or I didn't notice the collar changes between the 2000s and 2010s. The collar is definitely super long tip and wide. I searched for other makers and these were helpful:

• Julann Blake has a very detailed step by step photo tutorial.
• Shelly has a finished version with the original collar.

If making a casual oversized shirt, use the sizes closest to your actual measurements for the top and add more ease for waist/hip side seams. If making a work or fitted shirt, check the finished measurements on the pattern pieces and where the shoulder seams will end up - may need to size down a size or two on the top/bust to reduce looseness under arms and dropped shoulder seam.

Red with Blue Porcupine

[20170820] Red with blue porcupine printed cotton fabric from Ghana. Five button, open collar shirt with short sleeves, one mini pockets, darts in front and back. Loose camp shirt fit. This one was much closer to men's loose fit Aloha style shirts.

Pattern: Butterick 6085 View A Size 16 top/bust Size 18+ waist. Added onto the waist/hips with waist closer to the petite line. Made the collar narrower and reduced the point. Made a short sleeve adjustment. Used 3/8" seam on pockets.

Poppy Shirt

[20170812] Pulled a cotton print ("CP48048 Poppies Poppy Impression © Susan Wagner") from the stash for first shirt test. Five button, open collar shirt with three quarter sleeves with cuff that roll to elbow length, two mini pockets, darts in front and back. I matched the pockets!

I picked the sizes that were 1" less than my measurements which almost worked. Fit loose on shoulders and bust and tailored fit on waist/hips.

Pattern: Butterick 6085 View A Size 16 top/bust Size 18 waist. Petite adjustment on sleeves. Reduced the collar tip by 5/8". Used 3/8" seam on pockets.

Adjustments for me for next time: Collar could be 1.25" narrower. Side seam size adjustment could use petite waist but keep length of shirt. For tucking in, use size 14 top. For casual style, widen side seam size adjustment for hips.
